Belmont Youth Hockey
February 4, 2009
I. Call to order
Doug McLaughlin called to order the regular meeting of the Belmont Youth Hockey Association (BYHA) at 7:10pm on February 4, 2009 in the Staff Room of the Belmont Public Library.
II. Roll call
The following persons were present: Doug McLaughlin, Kim Rocha, Jim Finn, Janet Liddell, Jeff Brody, Joe Noone, and John Curran. Absent from the meeting were: Jim Brown, Jim Wooster, Steve Nally, Brian Quirk, Mark Shapiro, and Larry Christofori.
III. Approval of minutes from last meetings
The minutes from January 5, 2009 were accepted.
IV. Position Reports
January 1 through February 3, 2009 total income reported at $38,707. Income included approximately $17,000 in outstanding tuition payments, current season tuition payments, registration dues, ice reimbursement and tournament income and used hockey equipment sales. Expenses for the period consisted of approximately $5,000 in equipment expenses for equipment
Will require half season Midgets and Girls U19 to pay tuition in full by November 31st of season.
Kim R. reports Cori forms for all coaches and assistants completed and submitted. Four teams participating in the Waltham Tournament over February break. Online registration will be up and running soon. Will meet with Doug M. and Mark S. to clarify online consumer payment increments. Working on scheduling end-of-season Banquets.
Email sent out to hockey forum to solicit qualified coaches for upcoming season. Several responses already. Goal: to staff A teams with non-parent coaches.
Girls U10 and U12 teams doing very well in playdowns. Positive feedback received for the Girls U10 Learn-to-Play league.
Ice availability plentiful during and after BYHA tryout week. Will look at March 8 and 15th as opportunities to attract potential players to hockey. Discussed March 15th as potential Rink Closer Event. Doug M. reports BYHA still not serving goalies well enough. Maybe hire goalie coach for skills session(s).
Jim F. will distribute sponsor team photo plaques.
Jeff B. will talk to Pete Noone about potential Rink Closer event, targeting ages for Mites, Squirts and PeeWees.
Big Chill fundraiser at the Belmont Country Club this Friday night.
V. Other Business
Banquets – Kim R. to reserve dates with the Chateau Restaurant.
Tryouts – Will schedule for March using Belmont Rink
Mini One-on-One – Goalie and Shooter format. Winner for District 9 gets to go to a Bruins game.
Bylaws and Guidelines – Doug M. distributed documents. Subcommittee will review and revise as necessary.
