Meeting Minutes
March 16, 2009
I. Call to order
Doug McLaughlin called to order the regular meeting of the Belmont Youth Hockey Association (BYHA) at 7:12pm on February 4, 2009 in the Flett Room of the Belmont Public Library.
II. Roll call
The following persons were present: Doug McLaughlin, Kim Rocha, John Curran, Jim Finn, Janet Liddell, Jeff Brody, Joe Noone, Steve Nally, Jim Brown, and Larry Christofori. Absent from the meeting were: Mark Shapiro, Jim Wooster, and Brian Quirk.
III. Approval of minutes from last meetings
The minutes from February 4, 2009 were accepted.
IV. Position Reports
Treasurer
February 3, 2009 through March 15, 2009 total income reported at $38,240. Income included tuition payments, registration income, and the Big Chill fundraiser. Expenses for the period were $41,177. Expensed consisted largely of ice rental, league dues and tournament fees, fundraiser and banquet expenses.
Registrar
Kim R. reports 163 skaters registered for next season so far. Does not include Girls U10, U12 or Mites. USA Hockey changed regular season registration to May 1 through April 30. End-of-season Banquets scheduled.
Coaches
Steve N. commented on success of coaching staff this year. Recruiting several new coaches for upcoming season. Bantam team will pose team selection difficulties as numbers of skaters too low to field two dedicated teams. Meeting will be scheduled with Bantam level parents to discuss options.
GBL
Great Boston League asking for team composition at each level. BYHA projecting 2 Mite, 3 Squirt, 3 PeeWee, 1 – 2 Bantam, and 2 Midget teams.
Girls
Girls U10 and U12 teams are having a very successful year, both teams heading for the State Tournaments. U14 team for upcoming season posing difficult problem as too few skaters at this level, leaves them no place to play in Belmont. Will research area options, i.e., Arlington, Watertown and try to find places for this level to play. Joe N. inquiring if MYC can field a U8 team, as 6 and 7 year olds would benefit from their own league. Joe sites safety issues with this age group playing with the U10s. Will discuss with Kathy Cincotta of MYC.
Ice/Skills
I Received positive feedback regarding skills sessions this year. Will retain Fiddler and McNeil to provide skills for next season.

Equipment
Brian Q. will send email requesting return of all jerseys and equipment from the season. Investigating the use of a small “stop sign” patch worn on the upper back of game jerseys, in an attempt to minimize hits from behind. Received a quote for BYHA Sponsors’ Board, in lieu of sponsor names printed on team practice jerseys. Jeff Cronin, Squirt A parent, and in the sign business, agreed to produce the sign for approximately $600.
Outreach/New Membership
Jeff B. reported a successful Rink Closer event with the Rec. Department. Good hockey community turnout. Rec. Department to reimburse for ½ of the expenses.
Fundraiser/Social
Jim F. reports Big Chill fundraiser was a success, raising over $16,000.
Tournaments

V. Other Business
Mini One-on-One – Goalie and Shooter format. Mites, Squirts, Girls U10 and U12 to compete at District 9 playoff. Winner for District 9 advances to the State Tournament played between periods at a Bruins game.
Bylaws and Guidelines – tabled discussions.
Board Elections – Nominating Committee looking for names of individuals interested in joining the board.
